The first introduction to Los Angeles-based Sarah Bocket’s hand-painted wooden goods immediately brought a smile. Why we love them: Simple. Custom. The pieces are timeless, and right in the same realm as our CUSTOM MADE SIMPLE® way of thinking at The Shade Store. Bocket’s process involves upcycling wooden objects (bowls, platters, dishes, etc.), fixing them up and painting the interior with a distinct palette of color, giving it a refreshed custom-crafted look. Her painting technique is tedious but simple. Using a tiny paintbrush, she paints each item with acrylic, covering them with multicolored dots.
“Everyone’s first impression when they find out that I really hand-paint every dot is a serious shock. Then they ask me if I’m crazy.”
On her site, she posted a great old-time-style video about the making of her handmade goods. It’s adorable, take a look.
