Measure & Install Program

The Shade Store offers its customers complimentary* measurement services to facilitate the ordering process. Measurements are taken according to The Shade Store’s product specifications, and the sole intended use of the measurements is to assist The Shade Store’s Design Consultants in finding your perfect product. Measurements are the property of The Shade Store and will not be shared with customers.

Installation services are offered by The Shade Store at an additional charge as a convenience to our customers. Customers are under no obligation to purchase installation services from The Shade Store. Pricing for installation services is calculated as a percentage of the full list price of the product purchased prior to any discounts and is subject to a minimum trip fee, as listed below.

Measurement and installation services may be provided by an employee of The Shade Store or by an independent third-party contractor from our local installer network. If you purchase installation services from us, you are covered by our Limited Lifetime Warranty for any warranty issues that may arise from our measure and installation services. Service trips not covered by our warranty may be subject to additional travel charges. We expect our professionals to be courteous, knowledgeable, and respectful of your space. If your experience is less than satisfactory, please notify us immediately. Always use common sense to protect your personal safety and property, just as you would when interacting with other people you don't know. Your personal or business dealings beyond the measurement and installation of The Shade Store products by our authorized professionals, whether regarding payment or delivery of other goods and services, or any other agreements, representations, or warranties associated with such dealings, are solely between you and such third party. You agree that The Shade Store is not responsible or liable for any loss, damage, injury, or other matters of any sort incurred as the result of such dealings. This measurement and installation policy may be updated or changed at any time.

*Some geographic regions where we do not have regular service are considered “Out of Area”. An in-home measurement in these areas will have an associated charge to cover travel and expenses. In-Home Measurement Fees can be applied to the purchase if the total order value meets our purchase minimum. Child Safety

Child safety is paramount to us at The Shade Store. We are a family business with young children of our own and we would never want any product in our home, or yours, that is dangerous to our loved ones. As a partner of The Window Covering Safety Council, we are always in direct communication with this agency to make sure we are adhering to the highest standards and specifications regarding child safety. Every product we send out is in accordance with the latest safety standards as set forth by the Consumer Product Safety Commission and the Window Covering Manufacturers Association. For enhanced child and pet safety, we also offer cordless and motorized window treatments

Remember to always follow these basic window-cord safety rules:

  • Move all cribs, beds, furniture and toys away from windows and window cords, preferably to another wall.
  • Keep all window pull cords and inner lift cords out of the reach of children. Make sure that tasseled pull cords are secured out of the reach of children. Make sure that tasseled pull cords are secured out of reach with a cord cleat, and continuous-loop cords are permanently anchored to the floor or wall. Make sure cord stops are properly installed and adjusted to limit movement of inner lift cords.
  • Lock cords into position whenever horizontal blinds or shades are lowered, including when they come to rest on a window still.
  • Never mount products with accessible back cords, such as Roman or Woven Wood Shades, within reach of children.
  • Install only cordless window coverings in young children's bedrooms and sleeping areas.
  • Replace window blinds, corded shades and draperies manufactured before 2001 with today's safer products.

As of March 28, 2011, we are now making all roman shades and woven wood shades with a shroud located on the back of the shades to prevent hazardous loops from forming with the cords on the back. As a part of the compliance for the child safety standards set by the Window Covering Manufacturers Association, Inc. all shades with loose cords in the back require this shroud. For any roman or woven wood shade purchased prior to March 28, 2011, you can order a FREE Child Safety Retro Fit Kit. To order, visit www.windowcoverings.org and click on "order free retro kit". The warning labels to the right are an example of this - as it is important for parents to understand the potential risks associated with corded shades and blinds.
