Our Good Side: Blake Mycoskie / TOMS Shades

A few months back we posted about our love of TOMS. Here’s the link for reference. Again, TOMS has come front of mind to us. This time since they announced they’re now venturing beyond shoes. Take a look at The Reveal video from this week:

Using their same model of “One for One™”, TOMS now will help give sight to people in need through medical treatment, prescription eyeglasses and various types of surgery, administered by their partner, Seva Foundation.

The initiaive reminds us of some others doing similar programs. For instance, Warby Parker and their “Buy A Pair, Give A Pair” model. Neil Blumenthal of Warby Parker responded positively to TOMS’ news. In addition, we thought of the Adaptive Eyecare by Oxford University physics professor Joshua Silver – liquid-filled, custom-fit affordable eyeglasses that were included in the Project H Design exhibit and book entitled, Design Revolution: 100 Products that Empower People.

Right now, we’re continuing a little One for One of our own in our Gift of Shade partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation. Every order with The Shade Store now plants a tree in that customer’s name.

I think we’ll definitely be shopping for a *different* line of SHADES with TOMS again, this summer.
